We’re throwing the ultimate festival for van lifers, adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts! This 3-night, 4-day event was inspired by our recent trek to Baja with a couple of friends of Flarespace. But our experience there was so incredible that we decided to invite the rest of our adventure van family!
This event is for the adventure enthusiast looking for a unique destination to gather for unique experiences, sport, local food, and an unforgettable time. Take the journey south in your van, RV, motorcycle, or anything on wheels. All are welcome! You can even bring a tent to camp & lay underneath the stars.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!
Our event takes place at the base of the highest mountain in Baja, west of San Felipe, and 3 hours south of the border. That’s all we can tell you for now, but specific location details will unfold in the coming months.
Back to Baja will include live music and daily excursions ranging from heart-pounding thrills to local immersions. Bring your adrenaline because we’ll be riding Razrs on the Baja500 course but be sure to also bring some mingling clothes for a pub crawl through San Felipe. Full itinerary coming soon!
Our wide-open space doesn’t allow for modern luxuries, but we’ve got all the bases covered: toilets, showers, a communications station, and dedicated staffed tents for medical and security. Water, ice, and local food vendors will be available for a la carte purchases all weekend long. Stay tuned for more details.
Whether you’re #sleepingsideways in your van or camping out under the stars, the price of admission is per vehicle. Entry includes an allotted space for you to park one vehicle & set yourself up for three nights in northern Baja. In addition to your dedicated spot, admission will also include access to bathroom & shower facilities, hand washing stations, and access to a water truck so you can stay clean & hydrated. Bottled water, beer, tequila, ice, food, and daily excursions will be available on-site at an additional cost.
We are opening the event site on Thursday afternoon, Apr 21, 2022 and closing the site on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 2 pm.
April 22, 2022 is Earth Day and the weekend following Easter. We benefit from a waning fulling moon and really great Spring weather, a good chance to escape the cold from up North!
No. Only drive in Mexico during the day. Roads can be narrow, curvy, poorly marked, and have small/no shoulders. Cattle and chupacabras tend to roam freely at night, you don’t want to hit one in a van.
Legendary (and fictitious) Mexican werewolf.
Tickets to the Back to Baja are sold by vehicle and all people staying in that vehicle or on that vehicle's site are welcome to attend for the same admission price. If you need a larger spot for more rigs or tents, we recommend you upgrade to the VIP Ticket.
No, you can camp on your reserved spot. If you need more space, buy a VIP ticket or two or more General Admission tickets.
Buy the VIP Ticket, this provides a larger space reserved just for you.
We’re offering VIP Tickets for folks who want to reserve their own spots. VIP Ticket holders will receive a welcome gift and VIP parking support, have access to a concierge service to assist with local activities and restaurants/bars, more space to set up their campsite, get access to complimentary specialty drinks, and early access into ‘The Mirage’...
Absolutely, we plan to have fun activities available throughout the day for folks of all ages to partake. Know however, that there are no published quiet hours, probably instances of bad behavior to be found, and likely someone intoxicated and using foul language, even though we are not condoning that behavior.
We are planning to provide valuable services within a fun and safe venue to be enjoyed by like minded campers! Those services and the venue cost money - we’re trying to offset those costs by having a modest fee to attend the event. You can expect to find bathrooms, portable showers, on-site medical support, on-site security, and 24-hour oversight of the venue area.
The US State Department provides travel advisory levels for any travel outside the US. Prior to travel, we encourage you to read through the current advisories for travel to Baja California. Currently, the US State Department has advisories in place telling US citizens to ‘reconsider travel’ to both Mexico and Baja California. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html
Arrival quarantines are not required. The US CDC and the Mexican government encourage people to continue respecting social distancing measures, washing their hands, and coughing or sneezing in the inner part of the elbow to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings are not required in Baja California or San Felipe but are strongly encouraged. Some businesses may require face coverings. Curfews are not universal across Mexico. Restrictions vary based on state and/or city. Currently travel is discouraged after dark in Baja California.
That is correct. Currently Baja California, the state where the event will take place, is in Orange status. Under the orange status, the Back to Baja 2022 event cannot take place. We fully expect that Baja California will return to the Yellow or Green status prior to April 22, 2022, and the event will take place as planned.
We will be providing maps to the area from several of the border crossing areas. You will get the details with our ticket purchase. We are also organizing caravans to cross the border into Mexico to help make the experience of crossing the border and traveling into the interior a fast and comfortable experience.
Yes, you need to buy Mexican vehicle insurance and ensure it’s valid for the dates of the event and any time you plan to spend on in Mexico on either end of the event.
Yes, U.S. Citizens are permitted to enter Mexico and it’s very safe to cross the border. Here some other things to keep in mind:
We’ve never been stopped driving across the border into Mexico but you’ll want to ensure you have the aforementioned documents if you ever get stopped.
US citizens may enter the US via land ports of entry regardless of vaccination status and are not required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Starting January 2022, all inbound nonimmigrant foreign national travelers crossing U.S. land ports of entry must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination. In the United States, quarantine requirements and recommendations may vary by state. Therefore, travelers should review an individual state’s re-entry requirements before traveling. The CDC currently recommends international travelers get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home for self-quarantine for seven days post-travel. When re-entering the US, U.S. citizens must have a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) document, such as a valid U.S. passport, and be prepared to present it if requested by a CBP officer during a border inspection. Travelers entering the US via land from Mexico should expect long delays at the border crossing.
Heck ya! We are organizing several ‘meet ups’ so that you can cross the border in a convoy and drive together to the event site. More details to follow.
This event is conceived and organized by your friends at Flarespace. We have partnered with our good friends at Storyteller Overland, Owl Engineering, Canyon Adventure Vans, La Mesa RV, Sekr, Super73, Van Builders, and Evictus to help spread the word and create a great experience.
You will be provided a mirror tag at check in. We will ask you for your vehicle license plate number and names of vehicle occupants prior to the event. That’s all we’ll need. We will know you are coming and be expecting you.
All event sales are final. But the ticket and receipt are transferable with approval from Flarespace. Just give us a call so we know who to expect in your place.
Sure, bring a motorcycle and a tent, we don’t care. We’re happy to have all attendees.
No, bringing guns into Mexico is strictly forbidden. If you want your best odds of returning home on schedule, don’t bring your gun.
Absolutely not, security will escort you from the property to the destination of their choice.
